Downey & Downey, P.A. was incorporated in 1992 when Daniel Downey and his son, Edward Downey, joined to create the firm. Downey & Downey, P.A. is a successor of the long time Palm Beach County firm, initially known as Paty & Downey, which was founded in the late 1940's and included former Circuit Court and Appellate Court Judge James C. Downey (now deceased). Daniel Downey joined his brother James C. Downey at Paty & Downey in the mid-1950's where he practiced until 1992 when Daniel and his son, Edward (formerly a partner at Gunster Yoakley & Stewart in West Palm Beach), joined to create Downey & Downey, P.A.

Lee McElroy joined the firm in 2005 and Christine Bialczak and Jamison Evert joined the firm in 2011.

Downey & Downey, P.A. focuses its practice in the areas of Trusts, Estates and Guardianships, with a special emphasis and expertise in Estate, Trust, and Guardianship litigation.

The firm specializes in all litigated disputes arising out of Estates, Trusts, and Guardianships, including Will and Trust Contests; actions involving the interpretation and construction of Wills and Trusts; actions involving the validity of Wills, Trusts and Inter Vivos Gifts in the face of allegations of undue influence and lack of capacity; elective share and homestead disputes; creditor claim litigation; and disputes arising in fiduciary services. The attorneys of Downey & Downey, P.A. also serve as mediators in contested Estate, Trust and Guardianship disputes.

Downey & Downey, P.A. also specializes in estate planning, including gift and tax planning, the drafting of Wills, Revocable Trusts, and Irrevocable Trusts, planning associated therewith, and Estate, Trust and Guardianship Administration.
